Backpacks for the Homeless Ministry is committed to providing essential supplies and support to individuals experiencing homelessness. We believe in fostering compassion and community to make a meaningful difference in their lives. Our dedicated team works tirelessly to uplift and empower those in need, ensuring they receive the care and resources they deserve.
Backpacks for the Homeless was founded by Calvin McKinney and co-founder Mary Tuggle to provide hope, dignity, and practical support to individuals experiencing homelessness.
2nd Saturday of each month at 11:00 a.m., Calvin leads free recovery ministry classes covering the principles of the 12-Step Program. Educational materials and lunch are provided at no cost to attendees.
The organization also operates a clothing closet where individuals can receive professional attire for job interviews and other essential clothing. Each week, Calvin and Mary use their transportation van to collect food baskets and distribute them to people experiencing homelessness throughout the city.
Through partnerships with several local churches and the dedication of a large volunteer network, Backpacks for the Homeless continues to serve the community and help individuals take meaningful steps toward stability, recovery, and a brighter future.
